Quick Answer: A Google Ads course teaches you to run paid ads that appear when people search on Google, and on YouTube and partner sites. You learn keyword research, Search and Performance Max campaigns, conversion tracking and how to read the numbers. Google's own Skillshop certifications are free, Udemy-style courses are listed at about ₹460 each, and institute courses cost far more. Real practice with a small budget matters most.

When someone types "dentist near me" or "digital marketing course in Hisar" into Google, they already want something. Google Ads lets a business show up at that exact moment. That is why many marketers treat it as the most direct way to turn demand into enquiries.
This guide explains what a Google Ads course should teach, what the campaign types mean, which free certifications exist, what courses cost in India, and how to practise without wasting money. I'm Abhishek Gupta, founder of Social Baniya Academy in Hisar. I run paid ads for clients and teach Google Ads, so I have a stake here. I have kept every fee and fact attributed to its source.
Google Ads vs Meta Ads: What Is the Difference?

Both are paid advertising, but they work on different intent.
- Google Ads mostly reaches people who are actively searching. Someone looking for "AC repair" is close to buying.
- Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) mostly reaches people who are scrolling and didn't plan to look for you. You create interest with creative and offers.
Many businesses use both. If you want to understand the Meta side first, read our Meta Ads course guide. For the bigger picture of how paid ads, tracking and numbers fit together, see our performance marketing course guide.
Google Ads Campaign Types, Explained Simply

Google keeps changing campaign types, so a course should teach the logic, not just button names. According to StoreYa's 2026 Google Ads guide, these are the main types:
| Campaign type | What it does | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Search | Text ads on Google search results | Responsive Search Ads are the standard text ad format |
| Performance Max | One campaign across Search, Shopping, Display, YouTube, Gmail, Discover and Maps | Needs good assets (images, video, headlines), accurate conversion values and audience signals |
| Shopping | Product listing ads for online stores | Needs a clean product feed |
| Display | Banner ads across partner sites and apps | Better for awareness and remarketing than cold sales |
| Demand Gen | Visual ads on YouTube feeds, Gmail and Discover | The renamed successor to Discovery campaigns |
| Video (YouTube) | Video ads for branding and remarketing | Works best as a supporting channel |
The guide also mentions AI Max for Search as a newer option. Google changes these tools often, so check inside your Google Ads account for what is current.
What a Google Ads Course Should Teach

A complete Google Ads course covers eight areas. If a syllabus skips more than two, look elsewhere.
| Topic | What you should be able to do afterwards |
|---|---|
| Account setup and structure | Create an account, campaigns, ad groups and ads in a sensible structure |
| Keyword research | Find keywords, understand match types and add negative keywords |
| Search ads | Write responsive search ads and match them to the landing page |
| Conversion tracking | Track calls, forms and purchases using the Google tag and Google Analytics |
| Bidding and budgets | Choose a bidding strategy and set a realistic daily budget |
| Performance Max and Shopping | Prepare assets and a product feed for automated campaigns |
| Display, YouTube and remarketing | Reach past visitors and build audiences |
| Reading results | Judge CTR, CPC, conversion rate, CPA and ROAS, then decide what to change |
Conversion tracking is the topic beginners skip first, and it matters most. Without it, automated bidding has nothing to learn from and you can't tell which keyword brought a customer.
Free Google Ads Certifications You Can Take Today

Google offers free certifications through its Skillshop platform. A third-party guide published in May 2025 lists these exams:
| Certification | Questions | Passing score |
|---|---|---|
| Google Ads Search | 50 | 80% |
| Google Ads Apps | 49 | 70% |
The same guide also lists Display, Video, Measurement, Creative, Shopping and other certifications.
The guide also says these certifications are free and valid for one year. Exam details change, so confirm them on Skillshop before you start. A certificate shows you know the concepts. It does not show you can run a profitable campaign, so treat it as a starting point.
Google Ads Course Fees in India

Fees range from free to tens of thousands of rupees, depending on what you buy. The figures below come from the providers' own pages and from third-party listings, so confirm before paying.
| Option | Format | Published fee |
|---|---|---|
| Google Skillshop certifications | Self-paced, official | Free |
| Udemy Google Ads courses | Recorded video | About ₹460 each (Collegedunia listing) |
| CIM, PPC Google Ads course | 7 hours | ₹40,000 (as listed by Collegedunia) |
| WsCube Tech, Google Ads course | Online, 2 months, 60+ live hours | Not published; "talk to advisor" (course page) |
| Full performance marketing programmes including Google Ads | Institute programmes | ₹24,900 to ₹35,000 for typical ones, per IIM Skills' 2026 guide |
Two things stand out. The free and low-cost options teach the concepts well, but they give you no feedback on your own campaign. And fee alone says little about quality: divide it by the hours you spend running real campaigns. Our digital marketing course fees guide shows how to compare.
Red flag: Be careful with "100% placement" or "₹50 LPA average salary" claims that come with no source. Some institute pages publish placement figures without a verifiable report. Ask to speak to a past student.
Free Certification or Paid Course: Which One?
Start with the free Skillshop material to learn the vocabulary. Add a guided, practical course when you want someone to review your campaign, explain why a keyword wastes money, or give you an account with real budget behind it. If you plan to use Google Ads for clients, a job or your own business, that feedback is what you are paying for.
A 30-Day Plan to Learn Google Ads by Doing

- Week 1: Learn the basics. Study the Google Ads Search certification material. Create an account and a simple structure: one campaign, two ad groups.
- Week 2: Research and tracking. Build a keyword list for one local business, add negative keywords, and set up conversion tracking for a call or a form.
- Week 3: Launch one small Search campaign. My personal suggestion is ₹3,000 to ₹10,000 for a local shop, a friend's business or your own project. Send traffic to a page that matches the ad, not the homepage.
- Week 4: Review and decide. Check the search terms report, pause keywords that waste money, and write a one-page case study: goal, budget, result and what you would change.
7 Mistakes Beginners Make With Google Ads

- Launching without conversion tracking, so nothing shows which ad worked.
- Skipping negative keywords, so the budget goes to irrelevant searches.
- Sending all traffic to the homepage instead of a page that matches the search.
- Never reading the search terms report, which shows what people actually typed.
- Using Performance Max with weak assets or wrong conversion values, so automation optimises the wrong thing.
- Judging a campaign after one day. Give it enough data before making changes.
- Changing too many things at once, so you can't tell what made the difference.
